Black History Month
Every October The Diocese of Southwark marks Black History Month with a service at Southwark Cathedral on the first Saturday of the month. This year it hosted the Archbishop of Canterbury. It is a service to honour the heritage of Black people in our diocese and recognise their contribution to the thriving of our diocese.
The Church of England has not been exempt from racial discrimination, and work is going on to address this. You can read more here:

It includes a quote from The Revd Guy Hewitt, who is director of the CofE’s racial justice unit, who will be preaching at St Stephen’s on 27 October.
By learning more about our shared histories, especially where this is painful, we can confront ongoing inequality and promote greater understanding. Celebrating the diversity of British society brings us closer together, helping us to live and thrive together as God calls us to.
