If you are planning a funeral we offer our condolences for your loss and our support and prayers at this sad time.
We are always willing to take a funeral for anyone who lived in the Parish of South Dulwich or otherwise had a connection with St Stephen’s Church.
Please ask your funeral director to contact the Vicar to arrange our involvement, or contact him yourself to find out more – click here
The Service
Options for a funeral service include holding a service in church followed by an interment (either burial or cremation), or having the complete service at the crematorium or cemetery. We can also hold a memorial service at the church if you prefer.
The minister taking the service will meet you to talk you through the arrangements and the options for designing the service to reflect the life of the deceased.
Every year we invite all the families who have held funerals at St Stephen’s that year for an evening service of remembrance on All Soul’s Day (the first Sunday in November).
Memorial Garden
We have a memorial garden in front of the church where we bury ashes, usually in a brief ceremony a week or more after the cremation. We can only bury ashes in our garden of parishioners or those very closely associated with the church.
Families whose loved ones’ ashes are interred in our garden can opt to have their name inscribed in our Book of Remembrance in the church.
There is more information about funerals on the Church of England’s funerals website.
