Believing in Yourself
Our faith at its best can help us to understand that we are infinitely valuable in the eyes of God, and not only we but everyone who cares to notice it, is infinitely valuable.
In the eyes of the world certain people are valued more than others, often because they got to where they have got to by trampling down others. But in God’s eyes those who have been trampled on are particularly noticed and loved and sometimes this helps them overcome their misfortune and start believing in themselves as uniquely beautiful.
The American 19th century poet Emily Dickinson had a feel for this:
“They have not chosen me” – he said
“But I have chosen them”!
Brave–Broken hearted statement –
Uttered in Bethlehem!
I could not have told it,
But since Jesus dared–
Sovereign! Know a daisy
Thy dishonor shared!
